Chapter 3: Planning

This chapter goes over the planning process of writing an essay. Begin by taking inventor of your thoughts; re-examine your topic: subject, audience and purpose, continue the process, research and review. Then you start forming your thesis statement. Find a focus; start with general subject, then limited topic, and end with specific focus, and state your thesis. Finally you develop a plan or outline by making a basic list, a topic out line, a sentence outline, and graphic organizers. Different kinds of organizers that can be helpful to you are: Cause/ effect, compare/contrast, comparison, classification, process analysis, problem/ solution, definition, and evaluation.
